iTahiny Nutritional Properties

There are several ingredients found in iTahiny such as: sesame seeds, garlic, lemon juice and salt.

While garlic's nutritional properties are detailed in another section of our website, iTahiny's main ingredient, sesame seeds, adds the following nutritional properties: fatty acids including omega-3 and omega-6, excellent source of copper, a very good source of manganese, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, zinc, molybdenum, vitamin B1, selenium and dietary fiber.

VITAMIN B1

Vitamin B1(Thiamine) is one of eight essential B vitamins and  is considered “essential” because your body can’t produce it on its own; it must come from an outside source.

More than one study has suggested it to be the primary “B” needed on a day-to-day basis.

Thiamine is used by nearly all your cells, metabolizing the carbohydrates and lipids in the foods you eat, helping to convert food into energy and boosting the flow of electrolytes in and out of the cells of your nerves and muscles.

OMEGA-3 AND OMEGA-6 FATTY ACIDS

Omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids are called polyunsaturated fats because they have many double bonds.  Human body doesn’t have the enzymes to produce them, so it's beneficial to get them from your diet, therefore the nickname "essential" fatty acids.

Scientists have confirmed that a diet that includes balanced amounts of each reduces inflammation, lower harmful LDL cholesterol and boost protective HDL, maintains heart health.

The key is to eat in moderation and to improve the ratio of omega-3 fats to omega-6 fats, eat more omega-3s, not fewer omega-6s.

COPPER

Copper is an essential trace mineral necessary for survival.

This mineral plays an important role for the immune system and has multiple functions such as:  making red blood cells, maintaining nerve cells, form collagen and absorb iron, may prevent or delay arthritis, antioxidant energy production.

PHYSTOSTEROLS

Phytosterols are compounds found in sesame seeds and other plants that have a chemical structure very similar to cholesterol but with other beneficial properties.

Sesame seeds also contain more phytosterols than all other nuts and seeds.

When phytosterols are added into the diet in sufficient amounts, results are believed to reduce blood levels of cholesterol, enhance the immune response and decrease risk of certain cancers.
